Server ahoy!

After much deliberation I have decided to get my own server - nothing overly fancy, just something with a soldered-on CPU, low power consumption and sufficient connectivity for harddisks.

My initial board of choice, the Asus C60M1-I seems no longer available, but would have been a contender considering its price, regular DDR3 slots (as opposed to SO-DIMM), up to 12x USB 2.0 and 6 SATA ports. Its only issue was having only a PCI Express 16x slot for future expansions.

Luckily I found something just as good, namely the MSI C847MS-E33. Granted, there aren't that many USB 2.0 ports (a mere 4), and only 4 SATA ports as opposed to 6, but it's still capable of using regular DDR3 memory, and up to 16GB at 1333MHz as opposed to 8GB at 1066MHz, and more importantly comes with 1 PCI Express 16x slot, 1 PCI Express 1x slot and 2 PCI slots, leaving much more room for expansion, such as an USB 3.0 controller, and various harddisk or USB 2.0 controllers.

I already have a case (AOpen bigtower) with sufficient room for harddisks, a powersupply, a pile of SATA and IDE harddisks, and a IDE/SATA controller. All I need are some DDR3 modules and an optical drive with SATA connector. But everything has been ordered, and with a bit of luck I'll be ready to engage in some serious nerdiness this easter.

Oh, and the final specs will be as following:

MSI C847MS-E33
2x 2GB DDR 1333MHz
Samsung DVR-DL 24x SATA
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA HDD

And I might add these:
Conceptronic IDE/SATA RAID controller
Western Digital 200GB IDE HDD
Western Digital 160GB IDE HDD
